It’s been an interesting and surprising week for movie fans. In a fantastic marketing tactic by Netflix, the latest instalment of the Cloverfield franchise was dropped during Super Bowl LII. Rumours had been swirling of its imminent announcement, but no one expected its reveal during one of the biggest sporting events in the calendar. It sent shockwaves across social media with fans of the series excited at the prospect of another title in the popular franchise.
The first Cloverfield movie was released in 2008 with a spiritual sequel released in 2016 under the title, 10 Cloverfield Lane. The new film, Cloverfield Paradox follows in a similar production style as the sequel. The original script by Oren Uziel was for a standalone film titled “The God Particle” but Bad Robot producer, J.J Abrams considered the film to have the right “Cloverfield DNA”. The cast includes Gugu Mbartha-Raw and Chris O’Dowd.
Amidst the incredible buzz created by the surprise reveal, that day Flux Broadcast received a very exciting phone call. Netflix asked us to produce a live streaming Q&A London with J.J. Abrams, Julius Onah, David Oyelowo & Roger Davies. Of course, the chance to ‘Netflix and Chill’ with one Hollywood’s most famous directors and producers was an opportunity not to be missed. With less than 48 hours to get our broadcast production ready, we set things into overdrive to help equip and stream this historic event.
The stream was a resounding success with viewing figures of over 150k and climbing. The room buzzed with great questions and some revealing insights into how The Cloverfield Paradox came to be. It is quite clear from our broadcast numbers that the world was desperate to hear as much backstage gossip as they could from this brilliant Q&A session.
The Cloverfield Paradox is streaming on Netflix now. Fingers crossed for Cloverfield Live as the next instalment – Flux Broadcast would be more than happy to produce it!
