live viewers
to escape
top secret car
To unveil its first ever Formula E car, Porsche wanted to find a new audience on a new platform. They chose Twitch as the best place to build that buzz and Flux as the ideal team to bring their ideas to life…
Their plan was a world first: to challenge the Twitch community with a “live RPG, an escape room meets Bandersnatch… a real-life game where viewers control a real-life human being”. Participants from all over the world would work together to solve interactive puzzles and complete challenges to unlock the Formula E car.
The Flux response? You had us at ‘escape room’.
Our challenge was simple – capture every option, decision, failure and success in the Porsche Digital GmbH premises in Germany and stream it to a global audience.
For weeks leading up to the broadcast we ran through every possible outcome and solution to create a unique player controlled experience. We used an adaptive, custom built graphics solution to flow with the
audience controlled narrative, while body mounted HD cameras created an immersive ‘FPS’ feel. Viewers could see the impact of their choices which built the buzz when each problem was solved.
Over 2.6 million viewers joined the adventure, with 30,000 hooked from beginning to end. The excitement and achievement when the car was unlocked was unbelievable.
