Even the thought of breakdancing makes Flux’s back ache. So, when Red Bull approached us to live stream a 36 hour breakdance contest to a global audience, our initial response was a mix of wonder and admiration.
Red Bull BC 1 is the biggest one-on-one break dancing competition in the world, where sixteen B-Boys and B-Girls compete to be crowned World Champion. Qualifying takes place in cities across the globe and Flux was on hand to capture all the high-flying, head spinning action from the London heats. The stakes were high, with the winners being flown to Mumbai for the Grand Finals.
Flux provided cameras, crew and satellite trucks to send the live feed from London to Red Bull HQ in Austria. There it was mixed in to the 36 hour broadcast and aired on Red Bull TV Live.
We wanted to capture the incredible energy and athleticism of the dancers, as well as the atmosphere created by the live studio audience, so used a combination of hand held and robotic tower cameras. We’re especially proud of a unique overhead bird’s eye shot which shows just how quickly these amazing athletes spin!
Directing proceedings was Blue Leach, an award winning director with a real eye for the spectacular. Take a look at the video to see how things came together!
Part of a 36 hour global broadcast, the Flux coverage captured Red Bull’s high energy aesthetic and showcased the talent of the event’s competitors. With the Grand Final being held in India later this year, Flux is hoping to be there, watching safely from the sidelines!
