Diageo’s World Class Bartender of the Year competition has been the premier event in the drinks industry for over a decade. In 2019, the show rolled into Glasgow and Flux was there to shoot all the thrills and… ahem, spills.
Fifty-five bartenders from all over the world competed in a series of high pressure challenges in front of judges and a live studio audience, all to find out who would be crowned World Bartender of the Year. Flux Broadcast would raise the stakes even further by streaming their efforts live to a global audience. We’d also set up a live studio where a team of experts would commentate on the contestants’ best efforts.
The competition really is the World Cup of bartending, so we wanted to capture the diversity of the competitors as well as the intricacies of their actions. Camera operators on the event floor tracked the bartenders’ every move, grabbed their interactions with judges and captured the excitement for the viewers at home.
Our studio team offered expert opinion and lively discussion, led by the work of our in-house scriptwriter. We also scripted the live awards presentation at the end of the event, which was streamed across multiple platforms.
The event was a huge success, with organisers and audiences agreeing the quality had never been higher. The live event and awards streams reached over 5 million people and garnered over 2.5 million views on Facebook, with almost 200,000 impressions on YouTube.
