Hero Film

EE Learn Live was a one-day learning activation designed to help young people explore their interests across music, fashion, sport, gaming, nature and creativity.

Working with Havas, we supported the live production and content capture for the event, which featured talent including Big Zuu, Joe Wicks and Jill Scott.

The Challenge

There was a lot to capture in one day.

The event included live talks, panels, audience questions, workshops, talent moments and behind-the-scenes activity, spread across different spaces. Each part of the day had its own requirements, but the output still needed to feel like one coherent piece of content.

Havas needed a setup that could work for both live streaming and post-production. The event had to be covered in a way that worked live, while also giving the edit team clean rushes and a clear structure to build from afterwards.

There was also a short post-production window. The content needed to be delivered while the activation still had momentum, so the capture, recording and handover all had to be planned with the delivery date in mind.

EE also wanted the content to have more polish and personality than standard event coverage. The talent helped give the event relevance for a younger audience, but the production also needed to feel like it had been made with that audience in mind, while still representing EE as a serious content brand.

The challenge was to bring all of that together: a busy live event, multiple spaces, different types of content, internal streaming and fast-turnaround edits, all with one clear production approach behind it.

The Approach

With talks, panels, workshops and behind-the-scenes activity spread across different spaces, the main risk was that everything would be captured as separate moments.

Our producer worked closely with Havas across the schedule, scripting and content plan, so the day had one clear thread running through it before filming began.

From there, we shaped the technical setup around both the live event and the post-production needs. We planned camera positions, coverage and recording workflows so the stream worked on the day, while also giving the edit team clean material to work from afterwards.

For the main stage, we used a large sensor cinematic live setup mixed with robotic grip to give the panels a more polished feel than standard event coverage. It still had to move at the pace of a live event, but the look needed to feel closer to branded content than a simple event record. All of these feeds were bought back to a single video village for effective monitoring and communications to make sure the plan made it through production.

Alongside the main production, we had a dedicated behind-the-scenes team capturing the wider story of the day, including the workshops, talent moments, audience activity and atmosphere around the venue. They had a clear brief on what additional content was needed, so those moments could feed properly into the final post-production piece.

The live output was paired with an EDL (Edit Decision List) that gave the editor a strong starting point straight after the event, rather than leaving them to rebuild the panels from scratch.

The result was a production setup that worked live, reduced the time to post-production and gave Havas and EE the material they needed to turn the day into polished content afterwards.

The Impact

EE and Havas got more from Learn Live than a one-day event.

The production gave them the live coverage they needed on the day, but also the content structure to keep the activation alive afterwards. Stakeholders could follow the event remotely as it happened, panels could be turned into proper edits and the wider story could be shaped into a curated film.

The post-production workflow reduced the time to edit and the content planning paid off, reducing review and amend periods and ensuring that we hit our short deadline with the polish of a curated content piece.

Learn Live was also part of a wider push to bring people into EE LearnSmart, and this content played it’s part in helping to drive a 600% increase in traffic to the platform and keeping it’s message moving beyond the event.
