The Brief

Following the success of the live action, interactive escape room launch of their 99X electric car, Porsche once more approached Flux Broadcast to produce a new IRL live stream, this time challenging viewers to ‘Level Up’ their Formula E team.

Julia Hardy and German streamer P4wnyhof would present the show and guide the Twitch community through a series of mental, physical and technological puzzles in order to earn XP and level up the car and the driver.

The Solution

Flux loves a creative challenge, so we really threw everything at this one!

We built three different areas, each with interactive puzzles that required the audience to band together in order to solve. This included hiding clues in other streams and creating a specialised second stream on Twitch which the audience had to find.

On location, we used a variety of cameras from a broadcast to micro and PTZ paired with a Riedel media net system to streamline our signal flow. The gallery was built on-site with a dynamic graphics system which we controlled through Twitch polls and emote spamming. These graphics then triggered a correct VT which was captured and edited on-site the same day – which pushed the team to their limits!

To capture the VT’s we made use of a Russian arm driven all the way from the UK, which chased the various Porsche vehicles around the test track.

The Impact

It’s safe to say all the hard work paid off. Viewing figures were some of the highest Twitch has seen with over 50,000 concurrent throughout the broadcast and a grand total of 2.5 million in total. Overall it was one of the most engaged streams in the platform’s history.
