THE PROJECT
Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is one of the best loved and critically acclaimed comic books of all time. To mark its transition to audiobook for the very first time, Flux Broadcast brought together a unique blend of gaming, streaming and comic book fandom in one not-to-be-missed live launch event.
Designed to raise awareness of the audiobook in the gaming community, The Sandman Show saw some key gaming influencers come together to delve into the plot, get to know the characters and generally experience all things Sandman.
THE GOAL
The main challenge for Flux was this: how do we bring a much loved comic book story to life across such a diverse mix of mediums? The answer: Employ the best creative team!
As well as offering their thoughts on exclusive snippets from the audio book and interviewing key figures from its production, our charismatic streamers engaged in lighthearted challenges, inspired by the world of The Sandman. They even documented their own dreams for professional analysis! We combined this high energy content with pre-recorded documentary footage of the audiobook’s production, offering fans a unique glimpse behind the scenes.
From a technical perspective, we provided our remote MCR and comms set up, as well as a bespoke graphics system to ensure the highest quality broadcast. We also had an interactive quiz built which allowed anyone watching the stream to fire a series of questions at their chosen influencer. How else do you determine who’s fans know the most?
THE IMPACT
For Flux, the most satisfying aspect was bringing together the very different worlds of streaming, gaming and comic book fandom in a way which did respectful service to the source material – but also brought a new energy to the audio book launch. Streamed during peak lockdown, opportunities to draw people together in this way were rare, so this successful bit of ‘brand juggling’ was all the more welcome!
Streamed exclusively on the Twitch platform, the event garnered well over 120,000 views and numerous positive impressions from the community.
Remember, if you have an idea you’d like to showcase, get in touch.
