What do a giant hourglass, a live drummer and a dancer in a bodysuit have in common? They all feature in the world’s first live commercial for Mercedes Benz.
Mercedez Benz, with VICE, approached Unit 9 with an innovative way of promoting their new hybrid cars. The result was ‘Now has arrived’, an ever changing 12 hour live advertisement.
Combining artistic performances and data visualisation, the ad streamed to YouTube throughout the day, with a series of 15 minute clips on Facebook.
The live advert gathered huge attention online, drawing over 2 million throughout the day on YouTube and reaching 18,000 concurrent viewers at its highest point. The 15 minute Facebook sessions each had between 300,000 – 400,000, meaning total viewing figures of 1.5 million.
Flux was brought in early to consult on equipment, venues, streaming delivery and project management. Working with an external development agency, Flux also created visual effects and sourced production equipment. The team was on-site throughout to manage the multiple live streams.
Unit 9 asked Flux to get as close to their pre-visualisation as possible. We’re pretty happy with the result. Take a look below.
